Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Prevention

Providing over 720 SIDS alarm mattresses to hospitals across Hungary and Romania, covering major national needs.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is a devastating risk for newborns. In response, Rotary Club Budapest City initiated and managed a two-phase project to deliver breathing-monitor alarm mattresses to hospitals across Hungary and Romania.

Phase 1: Hungary (2009)

The club delivered 300 alarm mattresses to 16 major pediatric hospitals throughout Hungary. This delivery successfully covered 100% of the active national demand. The mattresses were placed into a "pool system", enabling hospitals to share and lend devices to other local clinics based on real-time need.

Phase 2: Romania (2010)

Building on the success in Hungary, the club expanded the project internationally to Romania, delivering 420 alarm mattresses to 76 hospitals. This phase covered approximately 60% of the national need in Romania, saving countless infant lives by alerting medical staff immediately in case of breathing anomalies.
